Time of Your Life Players has partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association® Greater Illinois Chapter, to re-open “Rock ‘n’ Roll AD” on February 27 for a five-week run through March 29.
This original one-act musical chronicles the experiences of Roy, a rock guitarist who wants to get his band together for one last tour but then learns he has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Roy’s unbreakable spirit, sense of humor and irreverent attitude allow him to continue the tour and learn how to live with the disease.
In addition to the performance, attendees will have the opportunity to discuss dementia with representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association following the show.
Featuring 12 original songs, the show will premiere at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 27 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago. The show’s run will continue at 2 p.m. every Wednesday, with the exception of March 6, as well as every Friday and Saturday through Friday, March 29. Tickets are $16 for individuals. The group rate is $11.
“‘Rock N Roll AD’ is both enjoyable and informative,” said Melanie Chavin, Vice President of Program Services for the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter. “The Time of Your Life Players do an excellent job of depicting how early onset Alzheimer’s affects both the person with the diagnosis and their friends and loved ones. Post-show discussions will be led by Alzheimer’s Association staff and volunteers, giving the audience the chance to ask any questions they may have about the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s and related disorders, the diagnostic process, treatments, and resources.”
A theater troupe comprised of seniors 55 and older, the Time of Your Life Players is dedicated to educating and entertaining from a senior perspective as well as demonstrating that one can lead a creative life at any age. “Rock ‘n’ Roll AD” is the ninth original musical presented by the Time of Your Life Players.
